Smart Notes: Moving Beyond Citation Management to Synthesis

Smart Notes: Moving Beyond Citation Management to Synthesis In-person

*Library Skills Week Event*

WMU Signature "Research & Creative Scholarship" designated.

Presentation Title: Smart Notes: Moving beyond citation management to synthesis

Description: Citation management programs help you keep track of your research sources, but they do not help you with taking what you have collected and making sense of it. This workshop will introduce a way of working with your sources and ideas that can support the synthesis of what you have read. The "Smart Note" system developed by Sönke Ahrens will revolutionize how you work with your sources.

Presenter: Edward Eckel, Engineering and Applied Sciences Librarian

Bio: Ed has been the engineering librarian at WMU since 2006. Previously he worked at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, and at Delaware County Community College in Media PA. He has an MLIS from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He has been teaching these workshops for 5 years. He is fascinated by how researchers keep track of sources, and synthesize those sources to create new knowledge.
