Open Textbook Workshop In-person

Help Lower Textbook Costs for Students

Have students in your classes dropped out because they couldn’t afford the textbook? Have you been shocked at the cost of textbooks for the classes that you teach? Would you like to help but don’t know exactly how to proceed? Learn about possible solutions by attending this workshop.

Did You Know...

The high cost of some course materials can impede students’ academic success.  The College Board estimates that the average student was expected to pay $1200 - $1400 for textbooks and supplies in 2017-18.  The cost of textbooks is rising at a rate of 4 times inflation.  7 out of 10 students do not purchase a required textbook during their academic career because of cost.

Open Textbooks

Open access textbooks (digitally available textbooks written by qualified academics made freely available) may help alleviate the burden of some textbook costs for students. Open textbooks are full, real textbooks licensed to be freely used, edited, and distributed. Increasingly, faculty members all across the country are adopting open textbooks as one way to address this crisis.
